The kids really love this dish. I omit the meat for Megan. This is my take on this pasta dish.
First, sauté some pancetta in olive oil. When nearly browned, add the broken up sweet sausage. A minute or so before you add the greens, put in some chopped garlic. Do not let it turn brown out it will become bitter.
Next, cut off the large stems of the broccoli raab and discard. Put the tops in boiling, salted water for a couple of minutes. Remove ( do not pour out boiling water). Run cold water over them. When they are cool enough to handle, squeeze out the water, chop roughly and add to the dish. Add salt and lots of pepper, a few red pepper flakes, and later, a can of drained, rinsed chickpeas.
Boil pasta to box directions. While it boils, chop up mozzarella into small pieces and grate a cup of fresh parmigiana cheese. While the veggies slowly cook in the olive oil, you will need to add substantially more oil . Before draining the pasta, reserve a cup of the water it cooked in.

Last, add the drained pasta to the dish. Add the mozzarella and half of the grated Parmesan. Mix well. Add more parm at the table. Eat hot.
enjoy!
